Sound was incorporated in a variety of ways. As a performance, The Former World consists of an ensemble featuring violins, acoustic guitar, percussion, and speaking performers. Recorded conversations, which the artists recorded on the road trips that created the project, display the humor and banalities of human life.

The vinyl LP, Songs, Crystals, Drone is a recording created from the different facets of the acoustic guitar utilized throughout the work: finger picking, ambient effect pedal processing, and drones activated by electric toothbrush. The guitars are all tuned in open style, in rational, just-intonation tuning.
